For those firms wanting a capable 5-tonne truck, the new Ford Transit 5.0T is their ‘most capable’ ever.

The new Ford Transit 5.0T is the Blue Oval’s ‘most capable’ van they’ve ever made.

As a load hauler, the van will be available in a range of variants with uprated brakes and suspension.

The new Transit will be the flagship offering for the range, and available as a chassis cab or a panel van.

The 5,000kg gross vehicle mass (GVM) will be a boon to many firms with a 2,383kg net payload for the panel van, or for the factory fitted flatbed, it is 2,558 kg.

The heavy-duty truck has a 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine producing 170 PS to deliver performance, durability and fuel efficiency.

10-speed automatic transmission

Ford has also added a 10-speed automatic transmission as an option to help deliver the power effectively.

Ford says that the increase GVM, as well as the payload, will benefit heavy-duty operators in construction and utilities as well as offering public transport and the emergency services a van with conversion potential.

The new Ford Transit 5.0T is available from November and offers, Ford says, a car-like driving experience.

Previously, the most capable Transit offering was 300kg less, while business customers were looking for a heavier rated vehicle capable of being converted into a minibus with 19 seats, police vans and ambulances.

Indeed, Ford says there is a bodystyle for every customer with a choice of four frame lengths, three wheelbases and either single or double-cabs.

For the double cab, there will be seven seats, including the driver, to meet specific business requirements.

The new Ford Transit 5.0T will also be available in the L4 high roof ‘Jumbo’ van guise with a load volume of 15.1 cubic metres, so there is enough floor space to carry five Euro pallets.

The new van features the latest Sync3 entertainment and communication system, and an-Upfitter Interface’ for converted vehicles.

This system links the conversion elements with the vehicle’s on-board data to deliver optimum productivity and safety.

There are also connectivity features to help businesses oversee and plan maintenance effectively to deliver increased uptime for the van.

The Ford Pass Connect offering uses over-the-air software updates so dealer visits are reduced, and businesses will find information such as the vehicle’s location, tyre pressures and oil life.

Larger fleets will be able to sign up to Ford Telematics to deliver effective fleet optimisation and management solutions.
